GIIS KL Young Chess Champions Shine at ISSAM

Young chess prodigies from Global Indian International School Kuala Lumpur (GIIS KL), Saidarah Somashetty and Abhiram Ajesh, showcased their strategic brilliance at the annual International School Sports Association of Malaysia (ISSAM) chess competition held on March 2nd, 2024, at Eaton International School in Jade Hill Kajang.

The competition commenced at 8:00 AM, with Saidarah and Abhiram, along with their under-15 category peers, facing off against formidable opponents from ELC, Asia Pacific Schools, Cempaka International School, and the host, Eaton International School.

Through four rounds of intense intellectual battles, both Saidarah and Abhiram displayed exceptional focus and strategic thinking. Their dedication paid off, as they emerged victorious, with Saidarah clinching the gold medal and Abhiram bagging the bronze medal!

In a nail-biting final round, both Saidarah and Abhiram faced off against challengers from Cempaka International School, demonstrating their mastery of the game.

By fostering a culture that encourages participation in strategic games like chess, the school empowers the development of a range of skills (Gem 9) among students, aligning perfectly with the 9GEMS Holistic Framework.

Congratulations to Saidarah and Abhiram for their outstanding performance! GIIS KL are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication to the beautiful game of chess.
